Artist Statements

The work that I make pays homage to both American and Japanese animation. Because of the media I love, I create works with implied movement. From two-dimensional drawings to three-dimensional sculptures and ceramics, they all capture the feeling of motion. Because of the cartoons and anime I watched growing up, I developed a passion for story-telling and character design. I’ve been making comic pages featuring characters with highly saturated colors and designs, these pages have little to no panels. The scenes on the page separate themselves through implied motion based on how we read from right to left. My sculptures, while abstract, also have their own sense of implied motion to guide your eyes through them. I also have a fascination in the bug world so bugs and their abilities heavily inspire my artwork.
